Senate Advances School Reopening Legislation

The Senate of Virginia advanced SB 1303 (Dunnavant) to the House after robust debate on the floor Tuesday afternoon. This legislation requires each local school division to make in-person learning available to all students by choice of the student's parent or guardian. The bill originally contained an Emergency Clause but was amended on the floor Monday to remove this provision. By removing the Emergency Clause, the need for a 4/5 majority vote was no longer a requirement for passage of the legislation.

The Senate advanced this legislation by a vote of 26-13. This bill now crosses over to the House of Delegates for further debate.
