The Virginia General Assembly adjourned its regular session yesterday with a vast amount of legislative business left on the table. Lawmakers will reconvene in a special session Wednesday to finish this work. This past Friday, each chamber finished debate on bills from their Chamber and sent them to the other for consideration (Crossover).
At the start of the session on January 13, a procedural disagreement between Democrats who have control of the legislature and the Republican minority, kept the session to 30 days instead of the customary 46 for an odd-numbered year. In response, Gov. Ralph Northam (D) called a special session which will begin tomorrow and allow lawmakers finish the legislative process.
The Virginia School Boards Association Government Relations team provided members a comprehensive list of legislation of interest via email on Monday, February 8. A select number of bills were posted on this blog for review as well.
