Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund Update

Today U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos released guidance to the states for the nearly $3 billion in funding that will be made available to states as part of the Governor's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund, which was part of the third supplemental appropriations package, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The GEER fund may be used by Governors to assist LEAs, IHEs, early childhood education/childcare entities that are hardest hit by the emergency to continue to provide educational services to their students. Sixty percent of these funds will be distributed based on the state's relative population of individuals aged 5-24 while forty percent will be distributed based on the relative total population.
